When his sister is attacked, memories of his miserable childhood assault Reed Walker and interfere with his perfectly structured life. AND A WOMAN TO HEAL HIM...

After hooking up with too many troubled men, Sophia is determined to find a normal, average guy sans baggage. She turns her attention to Reed, only to discover he has more issues than anyone. But if he can learn to open up to her, can she honestly reject him or will she kiss it all better?

Sophia had never known Reed to take a break or even grace the break room with his presence. When he had lunch, he either ate in his office or went out. So there was yet another reason she could tell something was way off kilter.

Halting in the doorway, she stole a moment to collect herself before entering. She didn’t want to get her head bitten off for trying to help the wounded animal, but she hadn’t gotten this far in the world by backing down from a possible confrontation either.

Courage bolstered, she strolled inside as if she didn’t have a care in the world. He sat at a table, studying an open folder. It had to be the Burnetti file. After what he’d said in the meeting, he was still going to do Marcus’s job. Her insides melted at his significant gesture. This was definitely a man of worth.

He picked up a smoking cigarette from the ashtray in front of him and brought it to his mouth. The break room was the only place in the building where smoking was allowed. That explained what he was doing in here. Still, her finely trimmed eyebrows arched.

“I didn’t know you smoked.”

His head popped up, and he nearly dropped the cigarette into his lap. He fumbled to steady his grip before his gray eyes moved up to her face. As she neared him, Sophia had to smile at the male appreciation in his gaze. She was used to men looking at her, but there was something entirely different about the way Reed Walker watched her. His brooding lids seemed so lonely as his gaze traveled her features.

He slid that same look toward the cigarette in his hand. “I don’t,” he said, then corrected himself. “I mean, I quit.” He glanced back to her as she sat across from him. “For a while anyway.”

She rested her hands on the table and folded them together, businesslike.

He settled back in his chair and let out a breath. “I’m sorry for snapping at you. You weren’t the person who had upset me.”

Sophia blinked. “You didn’t snap at me.”

He lifted a hand. “Yes, I did. And I apologize. I...I’m not having the best day.”

Sophia made a tsking sound. “Reed Walker having a bad day? Is that even possible?”

He took another drag of his cigarette. “I’m allowed at least one, aren’t I?” He tilted his head down and to the side to blow the tobacco away from her as if ashamed of smoking in front of her.

She smiled. “Well, you sure used yours to the max this morning.”

His face clouded with regret.

She held up a hand as he opened his mouth. “Don’t you dare apologize again. I know who you were directing your anger toward. And even if you had snapped at me, which you didn’t, it was worth it to see Marcus get what’s been coming to him. I think you just made yourself a legend around here. Today will be known as the day Reed Walker finally told off Marcus Weatherby.” She shook her head. “I’ll never forget the look on his face when you stood up and walked out on him. If I’d had a camera, I would’ve taken that picture and framed it for my cubicle.”

Reed smiled sadly. “I wonder if it’ll get me fired.”

Sophia shook her head. “No way. Kendrick will probably yell at Marcus for upsetting you.” Her smile softened. “Besides, Marcus knows better than to try to get rid of you when Kendrick thinks you can do no wrong.”

He winced. “He’ll find out that’s not so today, won’t he?”

“He’ll be impressed your patience lasted this long,” Sophia argued. She studied him for a moment, watching him look the file over before she decided to go straight to the heart of the matter. “But Marcus isn’t the one you’re really upset with, is he?”

His head came up. “What do you mean? I don’t have difficulty with anyone else. I think we have a great team. Marcus is the only lazy—”

“I’m not talking about work.” Her head tilted to one side and sympathy filled her eyes. “What’s wrong, Reed?”

His face drained of color. For a moment, she thought he might pass out. Then his eyelashes fluttered in a feminine way he managed to make look drop dead sexy and purely male. Finally, he gave the soft answer, “Nothing’s wrong.”

She exhaled a sad sigh. “You look like you’ve lost your best friend.”

He glanced up, and his expression told her she’d guessed correctly. But instead of admitting anything, he lifted his cigarette. After tapping the end against the lip of the ashtray and setting the whole stick in a resting nook, his fingers fell limping on the table. Sophia slid her hand across the laminated surface and covered his. His knuckles were warm but they shook slightly under her palm.

“Why did you rush out of here on Friday?” she said in her softest, most concerned voice. “Why have you been gone the past few days? Why’d you show up late today?”

No answer.

“You’re not wearing a tie.”

He touched his throat and patted the area as if he hadn’t realized he was without.

She blew out a quiet breath. “What happened to you, Reed?”

He stared at her for a long moment, looking like he might spill everything. He even inhaled and opened his mouth. His lips moved, but no words came. Then he shook his head, slipped his hand out from under hers to pick up his cigarette to stab out the glowing tip.

The Romance Review (5 Stars)
KISS IT BETTER is a heartwarming story that just captivated my heart. I could not put this book down. Sure, it is close to 300 pages, but once you start it seems like you just started reading and then, it's over. That was how engrossing it was. The characters in this book were brilliant. Sophia was the most generous woman, wanting to fix every one she found broken especially Reed but at one point she almost gave up on him. Then you have Reed. He literally filled my heart with love, he wanted to shelter his sister from everything but there are times that you are not able to fix something that is broken. Talking about the situation no matter how terrible it may be could be the easiest solution.

The passion that Sophia and Reed had was heart warming. The author's writing style was vivid and brings the story to life, as I felt that I was right there with them, experiencing their passion, anger and their sadness.

Even though this storyline has horrific events, it is still filled with hope and love. Two characters, Reed and Danni, are healed by two awesome characters. They learned that speaking about what happened helped them heal and have a great loving future. I was surprised with the epilogue; it was very different but great. Pick up a copy of KISS IT BETTER; you will not regret it.
Amazon Customer Review
Reed Walker was the perfect man, the perfect accountant, and the perfect lover but he harbored a dark secret. I was determined to uncover that secret before i put down my kindle. Author Linda Kage, hooked me at the beginning and I spent a pleasant afternoon reading "Kiss it Better." Work driven, Reed is feared as a "god" at the office but Sophia, a beautiful , sympathic coworker, is the one person who is able to approach the formidable Mr. Walker. His family life consists of his younger sister who he has protected since they were children and Nic, his former college buddy who is his room mate, friend and confidant. Together they weave an interesting plot. This is a well written adult romance novel.
Curse of the Bibliophile
"A heartwarming tale filled with love and hope.

This story was beautifully written and captivated me from the beginning. I have enjoyed books by this author before and was not disappointed with this one. The characters slowly worked their way into my heart and I found myself sharing many of same emotions as Sophia throughout her journey to find out what loving someone really means.

Sophia was a courageous and caring woman and I highly enjoyed seeing the relationship between her and Reed slowly develop. She grew a bit throughout the book as well and finally realizes that when it comes to love the heart doesn’t abide by any rules or conditions and nothing can stop it.

Reed hasn’t always had the best life and it has only gotten worse. Despite all of this he has a big heart and any woman would be lucky to have him. He was an interesting character that I enjoyed getting to know right along with Sophia. He also grew a lot throughout the book just as Sophia did.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves heartwarming romances with characters that will captivate you from the very beginning."
The Romance Dish
This story is one that will pull at every string in your heart, but also gift you with a laugh and a smile. My heart ached for Reed as he dealt with his sister’s tragedy and the memories of his own awful ordeal as a child. Watching Sophia coax a smile or a laugh from Reed made me sigh. If you are looking for a great story about overcoming obstacles and finding love, then this one is just for you.
Sizzling Hot Book Reviews (4 Stars)
With strong characters and a sweet romance, Kiss it Better is a great story to curl up with and enjoy. I would recommend picking it up if you are looking for some down to earth people in real situations that make the best of who they are and what they are faced with.
Single Titles (4 Stars)
Intense read, you really feel for Reed who has the weight of the world on his shoulders. Sophia is a breath of fresh air, she wants to be there for Reed, but his own inner demons have him conflicted on what to do. Linda Kage takes a difficult subject matter and writes an impressive story filled with hope.
